PLUS-Z_GIS is a well-established organisation with a track record based on critical mass for successfully implementing larger projects in thoroughly international settings, particularly in ‘third country’ frameworks. PLUS will lead the WP5 Development of learning environment and WP6 Educational network development. It is very active in TEMPUS, it gained experiences which can be used in both work package. It will contribute to all other WPs and organize the WP4.3 training activity in Spatial Analyses.
The Salzburg University Centre for Geoinformatics (PLUS) is focused on developing GIScience, Geoinformatics and GIS applications across a range of different domains, with particular emphasis on capacity building and the implementation of innovative curricula. Besides teaching a residential Applied Geoinformatics MSc, Z_GIS is a worldwide leader with the UNIGIS program which is reaching out to students with backgrounds in different disciplines. With assistance from www.eurasiapacific.net and building on cooperations and experience from previous TEMPUS activities Z_GIS in 2008 has implemented a joint centre at KSUCTA (Bishkek). Z_GIS organises the annual Applied Geoinformatics (AGIT) symposium which is co-located with the English speaking Geoinformatics Forum Salzburg (GI_Forum) conference bringing together researchers and practitioners across disciplines and industries. With the aim to make profit of the huge experience of PLUS, PLUS was attributed the leadership of the “Development of learning environment” workpackage (WP5) and the “Educational network development” work package (WP6). The project will also use the expertise of PLUS in the strategic aspects, in particular for capacity building.
