Introduction of TIIM

Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration (TIIM)

TIIM is one of the leader universities focused on teaching students and researching natural resources such as land, water and environmental management in Uzbekistan. Department of Surveying and Land cadastre will contribute to develop new master program in Geoinformatics which is the main output of this project. This department has almost 80 years experience in teaching and development of learning materials in geodesy, cartography and land cadastre.

TIIM has good experience in implementation of Tempus projects such as Tempus LAREMA and Tempus SWAN. LAREMA project had been implemented between 2006 and 2009 years, during this period new master program in Land management had been developed at two universities of Uzbekistan (Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration and Samarkand Institute of Building and Architecture). In the frame of this project new curriculum which meets the Bologna process, study materials, trained teachers and Land tenure development center had been developed at both of the universities. Nowadays, 14-15 master students are graduating from this course in each university annually and successfully applying their skills at different organizations. SWAN project was aimed to develop new master program in water resources management at Central Asian partner universities. As an output of this project new curriculum in line with the Bologna process, study materials and water resources management center had been established between 2010 and 2012.

 TIIM will be actively involved in the management of the project with the grant holder of the project UWH. TIIM will be responsible for the organization of project activities such as conferences, seminars and dissemination and gathering information in Uzbekistan. The department of Geodesy and cadastre will provide the consortium with required personnel. TIIM will work on two cycle education in GIS: improve BSc program education and develop new MSc program in Geoinformatics. Particularly will work on development and/or improvement of curricula, syllabuses and teaching materials with focus on natural resources management and hydro technical construction. Moreover, TIIM will participate in training courses for teachers and students and facilitate dissemination of project results and work on sustainability of project outcomes. TIIM will be lead partner in WP.3 (Development in working materials) and WP.9 (Dissemination and awareness).
