Introducing the University of Greenwich

The University of Greenwich(UoG)

The University of Greenwich offers the best of both worlds – city and country. The main university campus is on the doorstep of London, but with the best of Kent not far away. Our two London campuses are Avery Hill, in the district of Eltham, and Greenwich, in the Royal Borough. Medway Campus is in Chatham Maritime, Kent.

University of Greenwich draws on over 100 years of experience as educators, and on the rich heritage of our local area. For centuries Greenwich has been recognised as an international hub of discovery, exploration and industry. This forms the impressive backdrop and inspiration for our forward-looking innovative research and education. We expect our students to aim high, and work hard to develop not just subject knowledge, but intellectual curiosity and the confidence to tackle challenging issues. We place great store in ensuring that our graduates can seek out new opportunities, generate novel ideas, and be effective in the world of work.

We undertake world-leading research, with talented staff working on everything from the development of the River Thames and Kent coastline to combating sleeping sickness in Africa. Our facilities are excellent too and the envy of many in the country. We have a wide and varied range of programmes covering subjects from architecture and construction to science and pharmacy. We adapt rapidly to modern circumstances and the ever-changing world in which we live. Together, we’re making a better university, a university fit for the 21st century and the needs of modern research, education and society in general.

School of Science

The School is diverse and vibrant, with over 1,400 students studying at the Medway Campus in Chatham Maritime, which benefits from continuous investment in facilities. The School offers programmes across a range of areas, from environmental science, geography, GIS and Remote Sensing, through to nutrition, sports science, biomedical science, pharmaceutical science and chemistry.

Teaching and learning

We employ the very latest learning and assessment techniques, provide pastoral care to ensure students achieve their goals, and deliver academic and professional programmes supported by research and scholarship.

We have some of the most sophisticated instrumentation and most modern facilities in the UK, including a £1.5 million chemistry laboratory. Most of our programmes are accredited or recognised by relevant professional bodies.

The School undertakes internationally renowned research funded by industry, national research councils and the EU. Research areas are closely linked to our teaching portfolio; our recent funding successes have supported the development of novel analytical techniques, the creation of new drug delivery systems and the investigation of environmental issues such as the production and use of biofuels, as well as sustainable fisheries management in the English Channel.
