GE-UZ Disseminated

 GE-UZ team seized the opportunity at numerous events in 2014 also, to spread the word of our successful 3-year project, aiming to develop and implement a new university program in Geoinformatics to be offered on Masters at Uzbek partner universities, funded by Tempus. Few of these conventions are collected hereunder:

 

25th FIG Congress

25th FIG Congress was organized on 16-21 June 2014, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Every four year FIG organises a congress, in 2014 jointly with a so called Working Week, where thousands of surveying and land professionals from across the globe meet to debate and get inspired, particularly on current developments and contributions that will allow the profession to be continually armed with knowledge and best practices. Last year’s Working Week was hosted by Nigeria, therefore numerous professionals from Africa participated in the event, altogether with the more than 100 delegates of other countries.

The event was opened by Perdana Menteri, the Malaysian Prime Minister, at the fascinating Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

The event is always a great opportunity to spread the news among new generation as the movement of Young Surveyors (http://www.fig.net/ys/) ran their programs parallel with the Congress.

To our great pleasure dissemination of our project was assured by Odil Akbarov and Bela Markus who participated in the congress with two presentations. Presentations are available at GE-UZ website (http://www.ge-uz.eu/?page_id=110) and of course at the official website of FIG Congress (http://www.fig.net/pub/fig2014/techprog.htm).

Globe-trotter geo specialist will gather again in Europe, as next Working Week will take place in Sofia, tzhe capitol of Bulgaria in May 2015.

GISCA 2014

GISCA 2014 was organized by the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences jointly with other international universities and organizations in Urumqi city of China, 28-30th May 2014. Delegates arrived from universities of China, Belgium, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Romania, Rwanda, Tajikistan, UAE, USA. From GE-UZ side Tolmas Boltayev and Shukhrat Shokirov from Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration of Uzbekistan were actively participating in the conference.

 

 

 

The aim of the annual GISCA conference is exchange knowledge, experience in GIS science and its applications, extend international relations in this field and bring professors, researchers and professionals together.SS

Conference was divided into 8 sessions and total 34 articles were presented.

Sessions of the conference discussed topics such as Climate Change and Urbanization, Ecosystem and Environmental Modelling, Water Resources and others.

In the session named SDI, GI Education and Mapping, Tempus GE-UZ project secretary, Tolmas Boltayev presented his article on “Geoinformatics education towards sustainable development of Uzbekistan”. He presented the project activities, carried out from the starting date of the project including development of curriculum and textbooks, teacher training and purchased modern geodetic equipment.

Tolmas Boltayev and Shukhrat Shokirov introduced Tashkent as a venue of GISCA 2015. The Conference will be held jointly with the GE-UZ final meeting in May 2015.

 

 

 

 

GI_Forum 2014: Geospatial Innovation for Society

The University of Salzburg hosted again theinternational GI community from July 1 – 4, 2014. The GI_Forum 2014 provided a platform for dialogue among technologists and critical thinkers, GIScientists and educationalists in an ongoing effort to support the creation of an informed GISociety. Our project was represented by Andrea Pődör, GE-UZ project manager, who presented the new GE-UZ poster at the events exhibition.
