Days of European Education in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, 11-15 November 2013

Days of European Education in Uzbekistan kicked off in Tashkent on 11 November 2013, which organized at the initiative of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the embassies of EU member-states in Tashkent and the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

A number of events organized throughout Uzbekistan to inform about various opportunities under EU programmes in the field of higher education, Erasmus Mundus and Tempus, aimed at strengthening partnerships and mutually beneficial cooperation between higher education institutions in Uzbekistan and the European Union, as well as their further development in the framework of a new programme, Erasmus Plus (2014-2020).The purpose of this initiative is to inform the public about increasing EU support to the development of higher education in Uzbekistan, further enhancement of inter-university cooperation within joint projects between higher education institutions and expansion of scholarship programmes for studying in the European Union.

The main event under Days of European Education in Uzbekistan, Education Fair “Study in the European Union” held on 11-12 November 2013 in Tashkent Architecture and Construction Institute.

The embassies of Germany, France, Poland and Slovakia in Tashkent organized exhibition stands about study opportunities and scholarships in their countries. The British Council in Uzbekistan presented education in the UK.

Information on education in Romania presented by one of the Romanian universities with wide partnerships around the world. There also printed materials about opportunities in other European countries and a special website “Study in Europe”, created by the European Commission.

In addition to the exhibition stands, reports delivered during the Fair on study and scholarship opportunities in the European Union. The representative of World Association of Erasmus Mundus Alumni delivered to talk on “How to write a good application for Erasmus Mundus scholarship”. Tempus project participants from Westminster International University in Tashkent held workshops on preparing CV and Motivation letters. Presentations of the British Council presented English language learning opportunities and IELTS procedures in Uzbekistan. The representative of the French Institute gave a presentation about studying in France and scholarship application requirements.

On the first day of the Fair, on 11 November Tempus project poster presentations was made on the results of long-term cooperation between higher education institutions in Uzbekistan and the European Union.

Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration also participated presenting 2 Tempus project posters which called “GE-UZ” and “SWAN”. Participants of exhibition were introduced with project aims, objectives, current situation and expected outcomes of each project. Most of participants were students from Tashkent Architecture and Construction Institute (TABI) and they were interested in GE-UZ project because of novelty of this specialty for our country and also their specialty more related with Geodesy and Geography which are part of Geoinformatics.

The annual collection of articles “Tempus IV in Uzbekistan – 2013″ also presented on 11 November with case studies of project activities and sustainable partnerships with European universities. To the exhibition came no less than 1000 participants.

Mid-day of the exhibition we played the lottery for prizes from the organizers. The winners were awarded various prizes and souvenirs from the European Union Delegation in Uzbekistan and the embassies of the countries of the European Union.
