Autumn 2013

First year of GE-UZ project has come to the end, with several achievements behind us, and many more to come. As a new starting project, GE-UZ required accurate and devoted work from our partner’s side and couldn’t have been successful without their enthusiasm.

GE-UZ is a project devoted to ensure that Uzbek partner universities have the capacity to offer a Master programme in Geoinformatics meeting Bologna guidelines, international academic quality standards, job market needs and support Uzbekistan in sustainable development. The specific objectives of the project are:
• to develop a successful MSc in Geoinformatics (see below in Achievements);
• to ensure that there will be qualified staff available for course delivery by organizing train-the-teachers (The “Workshop on educational methodology and ICT”, Tashkent, is over; two others “Studies in Data Acquisition and GeoDBMS”, Szekesfehervar, October 2013 and “Studies in Spatial Analyses, Salzburg, November 2013” will be held this year);
• to ensure the universities are adequately equipped for GIS teaching by buying surveying equipment (Request for Quotations (RFQ1) was distributed to RELEVANT industries, WE ARE waiting for reply NOW) and develop GIS laboratories (common soon);
• to ensure the sustainability of the educational environment by building an educational network. (International Cooperation Agreements are signed; National Cooperation Agreements are prepared for signature).

• Need analyses were accomplished,
• Quality manual was created with general rules and templates to standardize learning materials,
• Core Modules are specified,
• Moodle site launched,
• English and Uzbek GE-UZ website launched.

Next review meeting will take place in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, 14-16 October 2013, followed by the one-month training of module developer. Visitors are welcomed by the Town of Hungarian King’s.
